Interesting concepts, control and submission. I was watching No Reservations on the Travel Channel tonight, and Anthony Bourdain was narrating. He noted that in his opinion "control" is the domain of the chef, and "submission" is what the eater accepts when taking in the tastes and textures of food......and of what those experiences evoke. I have never thought of my love of cooking and food in those terms before, but something really clicked for me when I heard that......
So, control. Some might same I am controlling. Well....yeah. I guess I am. Life is full and complicated and there are lots of moving parts and I am good with details....But when it comes to food, though, I feel instinctive. I cook because I am utterly fascinated by the combinations of flavors and colors and textures and what those combinations can result in. I cook because I crave the reaction of the people I love when I have created something they like. I cook because it is my way of showing the people that I love how I feel- its easier than saying it. I cook because I am "Mommy" and The Munchkins need to eat. So, in the chaos that is everyday, is cooking the way I control the chaos? I have no idea.
